Types of Cosmetic Dentistry Treatments for Smile Makeovers
If you are unhappy with your smile, you might be a good candidate for a cosmetic dentistry “Smile Makeover.” As with any in-depth dental work, a Smile Makeover is elective. It’s also not an option for every patient: you need to be in good oral health, with no existing disease conditions. In case you are wondering, here are the different approaches to a Smile Makeover. Keep in mind that it is not unusual to “mix and match” the below approaches, and many cases may require a combination of them.
- Composite Bonding
We can use tooth-colored filling material to improve the appearance of stained, crooked, fractured, or otherwise unsightly teeth.
- Dental Veneers
Dental veneers are a thin piece of porcelain that cover the front of your teeth to improve their color and shape. They look realistic and can correct many cosmetic problems, like cracked or damaged teeth, noticeable gaps between teeth, crooked teeth, and stained teeth that resist tooth-whitening. The veneer – or porcelain shell – is chemically bonded to the teeth. The basic process is that we first see you for an initial assessment. We then anesthetize the teeth, and we remove a small amount of enamel. We then take a mold and send it to the lab. The lab will make the veneers. Once in place, the veneers will replace the enamel that we removed initially.
- Invisalign
Sometimes orthodontics may be needed to correct bite discrepancies first, before addressing the cosmetic concerns. Certain bite discrepancies, if unaddressed, may lead to failure of the cosmetic dentistry down the road. For example, we may recommend orthodontics to correct your bite before we put veneers on your front teeth. Otherwise, the porcelain veneers may take too much bite force and fracture prematurely.
- Dental Implants
Implants can be used to replace missing teeth. The dentist surgically places a titanium screw into the jaw at the site of the missing tooth. After a proper healing period, the crown is attached to the implant, giving you a whole tooth. The resulting implants cannot be distinguished from natural teeth. To have implants go in smoothly, aftercare is important. You will need to be diligent about your oral hygiene to clean plaque and prevent peri-implantitis (bacterial infection around the implant that can cause the implant to fail).
VARIOUS COSMETIC OPTIONS
- TEETH WHITENING/ BLEACHING
Discolored and Stained Teeth
One of the most common reasons patients seek a smile makeover is due to stained and/or discolored teeth that do not respond well to professional teeth whitening. The cause of treatment-resistant stains is usually due to a combination of thinning enamel and deep, untreatable stains caused by medications such as antibiotics. To cosmetically correct stained teeth, we can help provide you Teeth whitening, Porcelain or Composite Veneers after thoroughly evaluating your case.
- PORCELAIN /COMPOSITE VENEERS
- INVSIBLE ALIGNERS
- EMAX CROWNS & BRIDGES
- Crooked Teeth
- Cosmetic Fillings
Not so long ago, silver and other metallic fillings were the only surefire way to fill a cavity. That is no longer the case. You may not realize it, but silver fillings are actually quite noticeable when you speak (especially fillings along the lower jaw). Fortunately, those mercury-containing fillings can be replaced with metal-free composite fillings that can be tinted to perfectly match the color of your teeth!
- Gaps between teeth
- There are actually several ways to treat gaps between teeth. Diastema can be treated through the use of orthodontics or Invisalign® to close the gap. Alternatively, porcelain or composite veneers can be placed to eliminate the perceived gap between teeth.
VENEERS
Porcelain veneers are luminous, life-like, restorative options for your teeth.
Dental veneers are ultra-thin pieces of porcelain that are custom-made, and that can be used to:
- Alter the shape of teeth
• Close gaps between teeth
• Conceal misaligned teeth
• Repair teeth that are chipped or worn
• Mask the appearance of severely stained teeth
Porcelain is a very strong and durable material with a translucent quality similar to natural tooth enamel. Thin layers/shells of porcelain are bonded to the front surface of your teeth. Veneers can alter the position, shape, size, and color of your natural smile, of course, depending on the desired outcome.

Benefits of Invisalign for a straighter smile:
Invisalign clear aligners present a straightforward and efficient alternative to traditional braces, boasting numerous remarkable advantages.
- Cosmetic considerations
Since Invisalign® clear aligners are virtually invisible, most people will never be able to tell that you are wearing an orthodontic device. This makes them the perfect orthodontic option for individuals who are self-conscious about their appearance.
- Clear aligners are removable
One of the great things about Invisalign® clear aligners is that they can be removed to brush, floss, and eat. This isn’t only convenient, but also helps maintain health throughout the duration of orthodontic treatments. With conventional metal braces, food and biofilms can accumulate around the brackets, which can increase the risk of cavities and other dental health issues. Also, unlike Invisalign clear aligners, traditional braces can restrict your food options.
- They’re more comfortable
The brackets of traditional braces tend to chafe the inside of the cheek, making them uncomfortable. Also, wires can become bent while eating, which can cause some pain and discomfort. Invisalign® clear aligner trays are smooth to the touch and precisely molded for your teeth using digital dental scans.
- Fewer office visits
Since Invisalign® aligner trays are designed using digital workflows, patients can expect fewer appointments with their dentist in comparison to traditional orthodontics.
- Faster than braces
Invisalign® treatment is often faster than braces. Because each new tray is precisely formed to target certain areas, Invisalign® treatment is typically faster than conventional braces. Every few weeks you will return to the dentist’s office to receive your custom aligners.
- Alter the shape of teeth
